After statements from the film’s stars — Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Helen Mirren and America Ferrera — the director herself has chimed in.
"You can’t get upset about things like that," said the cinema icon, who narrated the record-breaking film.
"There's no way to feel sad when you know you're this blessed," the Australian actor said.
“To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” the actor said of his colleagues.
The director’s reaction was perhaps not what you’d expect.
The director relished exposing the weakness of her "Barbie" star on "The Late Show."
The French competition has a long history of overlooking women in film.
The "Wonka" star spilled on his scrapped cameo in the Greta Gerwig-directed film.
