Twitter CEO Elon Musk — who bought the platform last year for $44 billion — posted Tuesday it’s “better to talk to people than communicate via tweet.”
The billionaire’s admission came amid a lengthy exchange with Twitter employee Haraldur Thorleifsson, who wanted to know if he’d been laid off.
Musk, who has slashed Twitter’s staff, mocked Thorleifsson over his query. But their back-and-forth took a turn when Musk revealed he’d video called the staffer “to figure out what’s real vs what I was told.”
Musk later apologized for the “misunderstanding of his situation.”
Based on your comment, I just did a videocall with Halli to figure out what’s real vs what I was told. It’s a long story.

Better to talk to people than communicate via tweet.
I would like to apologize to Halli for my misunderstanding of his situation. It was based on things I was told that were untrue or, in some cases, true, but not meaningful.

He is considering remaining at Twitter.
The “better to talk” than tweet line stood out to critics, though, who mockingly called it the social media giant’s new mission statement.

Might need to rethink the new @Twitter mission statement… pic.twitter.com/adn9Dv8QHt
Also, “better to talk to people than communicate via tweet” is a hilarious indictment of the website you spent $44 billion on pic.twitter.com/Mdm8mlVqzr

Tell yourself that everyday.
If the person who owns this platform believes it’s “better to talk to people than communicate via tweet” why the fuck did he pay $44bn to even be here? pic.twitter.com/1mjwfKca1l

This whole saga has been incredible, but also how funny is it for the guy who paid $44bn for twitter to say “better to talk to people than communicate via tweet” pic.twitter.com/CYk4aZJhRo

“Better to talk to people than communicate via tweet” should be the new Twitter brand slogan https://t.co/zVyhX55I5s

Took him 44 billion dollars and daily public humiliation to realise that, "Better to talk to people than communicate via tweet." pic.twitter.com/osHGnPc2gJ
