We're more aware of ethnicity than ever before. The upcoming November election has been controversial because of this. Every day there's a new event that triggers Americans into debating the ideals of separation, xenophobia, and racial equality. We've collectively recoiled as a series of national tragedies have caused us all to ask, how far have actually come when it comes to ethnicity? As the debate rages on we've seemingly forgot one thing: we're all human. It's a simplification of much, much more complex issue of course, but it also holds power for the same reasons.

No matter your ethnicity, no matter your heritage, we all live in the same world. History has been made complicated over borders and ideological differences. By pushing past the baggage of the past, maybe we afford each other a better future where cooperation and community far outweigh difference.

Just to be clear, difference is awesome too. It's what keeps life interesting. By embracing difference rather than rejecting it we have an opportunity to grow and realize that we're all in this daily struggle together.

That's what Shir Levi believes in the above video. As a woman with ten different ethnicities, Shir is often affronted with questions about her heritage. Despite this, she believes no matter her lineage or history, she's a human above all else. It's a fantastic lesson we can all take into November. Don't feed the politics of division, embrace difference and love, it'll make us stronger in the long run.
