James Cameron Reveals He Nearly Died In Terrifying Underwater Accident While Filming âThe Abyssâ
The filmmaker said he had to punch one of his diving assistants to survive the near-death moment.
The âTerminatorâ director said heâs more concerned AI will cause a nuclear disaster than write âa good story.â
âI donât respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now,â the director wrote on Twitter.
The âTitanicâ director â who is no stranger to deep sea exploration â also said he wishes heâd âspoken upâ to OceanGate about reported design flaws.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
âFor us, itâs a very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded," the director told ABC News.
Cameron, the director of âAvatarâ and âTitanic,â came to Argentina to speak at a sustainability conference in Buenos Aires on Friday.
The film icon admitted he wanted to go in a slightly different direction with this one.
"Weâre saying as a society, âWe need this. We need to go to theaters and have that experience,'" Cameron said.
âI look back on some films that Iâve made, and I donât know if I would want to...fetishize the gun, like I did on a couple of 'Terminator' movies," said Cameron.
"Theyâre not extraordinary problems. Theyâre not going up against some guy thatâs trying to conquer the galaxy," Cameron said.
