Buzz Bissinger Talks Crossdressing And Challenging The Gender Binary

"What is it to be a man? What does it mean to be a woman? I think it's whatever you want."

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger truly doesn't care what you think about his love for crossdressing.

The author of the acclaimed book Friday Night Lights doesn't distinguish between men's and women's clothing -- he just wears what he wants. Bissinger explained to HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd on Tuesday that while his "down with it" wife sometimes worries about how his openly talking about crossdressing could affect their kids, he thinks it's an important conversation to have.

"I hate this gender distinction... Difference should be celebrated. Difference should not be suppressed," he said.

Bissinger referenced previous conversations with Caitlyn Jenner for his recent highly-acclaimed Vanity Fair article titled "Call Me Caitlyn."

"Caitlyn said this -- and what she's gone through was much more intense -- she's not hurting anyone, you know? It's great," Bissinger said. "She's celebrating her identity. She is coming out and transitioning into what she always was."

When Bissinger is donning stylish six-inch high heeled boots, for example, the "totally boring" white heterosexual males are the ones who stare him down, he said, not women. He questioned why anyone would care about his affinity for and attraction to women's clothing.

"What does it mean? Am I less of a man? Am I more of a man? What the hell does that really mean?" Bissinger questioned. "What is it to be a man? What does it mean to be a woman? I think it's whatever you want."
