It is the first Monday in May — so it is, once again, time for the Met Gala, one of the biggest fashion events of the year.

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour hosts the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition each year.

This year, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth were co-chairs for the event at the opening of the exhibit “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The theme explored “notions of rebirth and renewal, using nature as a metaphor for the impermanence of fashion,” according to the Met.

The dress code was “The Garden of Time,” and before the event, Vogue reported that “we’ll likely see many a floral and botanical looks grace the famed Met Gala red carpet.”

HuffPost reporters and editors followed along for the evening to talk about all the best — and most interesting — looks of the celebration. Scroll down to see some of our takes.

Serena Williams Is Dripping In Gold On The Met Gala Carpet

Serena Williams is the prize. I love that she looks like she’s dripping in gold in this metallic Balenciaga gown. I mean, it’s only fitting for an Olympic gold medalist.

The GOAT.

Usher Is Giving Sexy Darkwing Duck — And I Don’t Know How To Feel

I don’t hate this look — I love me some Usher. But the hat is really what’s throwing me off. Remember the cartoon series “Darkwing Duck”? I immediately thought of that, and the cape really makes that look come together. Also, a person on X pointed out that Usher's outfit looks like the one Martin had on in his story about meeting Gina for the first time on “Martin.” Too funny. I guess it's also giving Zorro?

People Are Confusing Sydney Sweeney For Someone Else At The Met Gala

Sydney Sweeney is making a lot of us do a double take — but not for the reason you might think. Not only does she look unrecognizable on the red carpet, but a lot of people on X are pointing out that she resembles singer Billie Eilish.

Sweeney’s black short bob is quite the departure from her typical blonde locks!

Rita Ora Bares Legs (And A Whole Lot More) In Ancient Beads On Met Gala Red Carpet

No, just no.

Cardi B. Charging Her Phone On The Red Carpet Is So Relatable

We’ve all been there. You’re running late to an event. You look at your phone just before putting the finishing touches on your look — and then realize your phone is on 23%. So you try to get just a little more juice in it before you run out to your Uber. Cardi B. is just like us!

Da’Vine Joy Randolph Shines In Denim Blue — With Light Blue Nails To Match

I’m loving this look from head to toe. The red hair to the ruffled dress to the light blue nails. Nothing more to say. Hello, Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph!

Keke Palmer Is Serving ‘Coming To America’ Realness With Her Met Gala Look

If you’ve seen “Coming to America” a million times like me, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to Keke Palmer’s look at the Met Gala. In one of the early scenes of the film, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is supposed to be married off to Princess Imani Izzi (Vanessa Bell Calloway) who has been trained up to marry and serve the future king. She “likes whatever he likes” and does whatever he says, including jumping on one leg and barking like a dog (and a big dog, too). Imani is dressed in a bejeweled gown and her hair is styled in a high pony – just like Palmer at tonight’s gala. I love it so much; Marc Jacobs did her so well with this look. She looks beautiful. Get ‘em, Keke!

Demi Moore's Met Gala Dress Is A Real Shot To The Heart

This is one of my favorite looks of the night. Demi Moore is wearing Harris Reed, from the designer’s Fall 2024 collection. The silhouette of this dress is breathtaking. Moore looks stunning, and she looks like she’s enjoying wearing this look on the carpet.

The dress is striking, but Reed’s explanation for how it fits with the theme makes me love the look even more: “I wanted her to look like she was almost in full bloom for one split second on the red carpet before this flower then starts, like any flower, to decay,” the designer told Vogue.

Tyla Is Dipped In Sand On The Met Gala Red Carpet

OK, read this tweet like the introduction to “Days of Our Lives,” and you will be laughing for the rest of the night (trust me, I am!). Tyla, who won Best African Music Performance for her hit song “Water” at the Grammys earlier this year, took to the theme quite literally by showing up with an hourglass in hand — and looking like a glistening hourglass to boot. Thankfully, she doesn't actually look dusty, but she's giving us a slight shimmer with the sandy look on her dress. On top of that, her skin is glowing despite the literal sand on her shoulders.

Sarah Jessica Parker Does Carrie Bradshaw Proud At Met Gala

Sarah Jessica Parker definitely gave both royal glamour and Carrie Bradshaw vibes at this year’s event. Her dress, which featured a foundational wire frame, is by Richard Quinn.

She looks stunning and ready for a royal wedding!

In an interview with Vogue, she had this to say about some of the thought process behind the look: “With this dress, we wanted to play on the idea of preservation; the dress appears so fragile as to be almost ephemeral, but with care and consideration it has been built to last.”

Once Again, Colman Domingo Stuns On The Red Carpet

One thing about Colman Domingo? He always shows up to shut down the red carpet. Of course, he made no exception for Met Gala night. I love his outfit. The monochromatic look is very sharp — and somehow, he makes the oversized pants look good. The silhouette here just works way better than Donald Glover’s ensemble. Domingo is also toting some flowers to pay homage to the theme.

The Oscar-nominated actor told E! red carpet correspondent Ross Mathews that he wore the cape in honor of André Leon Talley and Chadwick Boseman, who both wore capes at previous Met Gala events. Talley, who was editor-at-large at Vogue, died in 2022. Boseman died in 2020.

At The Met Gala, Seth Meyers Shares A Very Relatable Sentiment About Parenthood

"Basically, our theme every year is two parents who left our kids at home … and I hope it comes across in the brightness of our eyes." — Seth Meyers with his wife, Alexi Ashe.

Ayo Edebiri Serves Up Real Flower Power On The Met Gala Red Carpet

I’m blown away by Ayo Edebiri’s outfit — she looks radiant. This is her first Met Gala — a “Met Gala baby,” as she called herself on the red carpet — and she handled her debut like a pro.

I love how on theme she is. I’m not usually a huge fan of halter-neck dresses, but she 100% pulled off this flowery, backless Loewe gown. I’m also loving the bright pink blush. This spring-y look is a win.

Donald Glover's Pants Need A Trip To The Tailor

If there’s any night to make sure your pants are tailored, it is Met Gala night. Too bad Donald Glover didn’t get the memo. Unfortunately, the too-long pants are gathering up right on top of his shoes and are not flattering at all. I’ve enjoyed a few of his red carpet looks in the past, specifically this look at a “Solo: A Star Wars Story" premiere. What a miss tonight.

Jennifer Lopez And Zendaya Are Giving Fairy Godmother & Playful Princess At The Met Gala

There’s something about seeing Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya together tonight that makes me love their looks. They complement each other perfectly. J.Lo looks spring-y and like a fairy godmother, and Zendaya is giving beautiful storm and mischievous princess. Both celebs are co-chairs of the Met Gala this year. I, for one, am so glad we didn’t have to wait all night to see them on the carpet. Also, apparently, this is Zendaya’s first red carpet Met Gala since 2019. She’s there with her longtime stylist, Law Roach, who notoriously retired last year. He has since said he’s still going to style Zendaya and Celine Dion. (He styled Dion for the Grammys this year.) — Erin

Yes, I agree. I think they play off each other really well. They both look stunning and regal. I’m so happy that Law Roach is still styling Zendaya. Truly a dream team. — Kim

Bad Bunny Is The Prince Charming We Didn't Know We Needed

Bad Bunny, who is one of the co-hosts of the night, is wearing a custom Maison Margiela Artisanal Collection by John Galliano. Bad Bunny is definitely known to take risks, so after rocking a more understated look at last year’s event, it’s nice to see he’s certainly not holding back this year.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the theme for this year, but if we’re thinking of flowers, I like that he brought a bouquet. Apparently, the bouquet fittingly features the Flor de Maga — the national flower of Puerto Rico. I can’t wait to see what people on X think about his hoof-looking shoes.

Chris Hemsworth Names The Most Fashionable 'Chris' In Hollywood — And It's A... Choice?

It is my favorite night on the internet: the first Monday of May — the Met Gala! Now, if you know me, you know I am the last person to critique fashion. (My Adam Sandler wardrobe — big T-shirts and gym shorts — is pretty great, tho.) But I had to laugh at Chris Hemsworth’s answer to the question: Who is the most fashionable Chris in Hollywood?

“What I like about Pine — he’s kind of going for the poor man thing, with the beard and the hair — then he looks pretty sharp on the carpet, too,” Hemsworth told the Hollywood Reporter as he walked up the stairs at the Met Gala. “They’ve all got their place. Evans is pretty sharp, Pratt. Hemsworth does OK!”

This is hilarious to me because – have you seen Chris Pine recently? He pretty much always looks disheveled and with the most random outfit on. Recently, he told Access Hollywood that his wardrobe from his upcoming film “Poolman” with Danny Devito is mostly just his own clothes. I mean, this tracks! His outfits often look like he's just running out of the house really quick to run an errand.

Hemsworth, who looks very sharp tonight in a relaxed look, is the co-chair of the 2024 Met Gala, along with Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Anna Wintour.
