Whether you own everyday scissors, small sewing scissors or anything in between, what you need when you pick up these tools is a clean cut. So, if your scissors aren’t quite as sharp as they used to be, take a cue from “Home Made Simple” designer Nicole Gibbons.

As Gibbons demonstrates in the above video, there’s an easy way to sharpen slightly dull scissors without investing in your own sharpening stone or taking the time to get them sharpened professionally. All you need is sandpaper. (Medium grit works for most scissors.)

“All you do is take your scissors, a piece of sandpaper [and] give it a few cuts,” Gibbons says. “Your scissors are good as new.”
