Fishy-Smelling Thief Wanted By Seattle Police

'Fishy' Thief Swipes $45,000 Rolex

Police in Washington state are on the lookout for a foul-smelling thief who stole an expensive watch from a jewelry store.

An unknown man missing several teeth with a "distinctly fishy musk about him" entered Ben Bridge Jewelers in downtown Seattle on Jan. 18.

The man explained away his nauseous aroma by saying he was a wealthy fisherman and asked to try on a $45,000 Rolex watch so he could "feel the weight," employees told police.

According to Seattle police, a jewelry store employee fastened the watch around the suspect's wrist, after which the suspect said "see ya" and bolted out the door.

Two jewelry store employees ran after the suspect and a homeless man outside the shop joined them in their chase, assisting in the pursuit, police said.

The suspect ran into a nearby clothing store, at which time a female employee from the jewelry store managed to grab a hold of him, but he allegedly shoved her away and ran off again.

The suspect remained at large Monday. Police this week released the video surveillance footage from the jewelry store in hopes someone might recognize the toothless, foul-smelling bandit.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Seattle police at 206-684-5535.
