Joy Reid scorched Donald Trump with a “Stranger Things”-themed burn after he seemed to be more interested in posting to social media than in appearing for his own arraignment. (See her monologue below.)
The former president waived his right to appear for an arraignment in the Georgia election interference case on Thursday, instead pleading not guilty to all of the charges through a court filing. In the meantime, he was busy making videos for social media, including one where he hawks a T-shirt and another where he thanks people in predominantly Black neighborhoods of Atlanta for “showering” him with support.
On her MSNBC show Thursday, Reid said Trump doesn’t seem to be living in reality.
“As for Trump’s avoidance of his arraignment, perhaps he’s too busy preparing more of those bizarre and random social media video posts ... that show that he continues to live in the Upside Down,” she said, referring to the mysterious dimension in the hit Netflix show.
She took special aim at his post about Atlanta, a city that voted overwhelmingly for Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
“Of course, there’s no evidence that there was even a sprinkle of support from the same city he repeatedly called ‘horrible’ and ‘crime infested,’” Reid noted.
Reid went on to address “fact versus fiction” and “reality versus a reality show” when it comes to Trump. She kicked off her program with a video compilation of the former president touting that he’s rich.
“I’m smarter than they are, I’m richer than they are,” said Trump in remarks directed toward “the elite” at a 2018 rally.
“Are you though, Donnie? Are you really that rich?” asked Reid, citing a court filing from the New York attorney general’s office that claimed Trump inflated his personal net worth by up to $2.2 billion.
“When it comes to Donald Trump, you know what side he tends to come down on,” the host said.
“Trump seems convinced that he can make people believe the world is actually flat. His embrace of lies, conspiracy theories and alternative facts underscores most of his legal woes.”
