A police officer shot and injured a man who confronted him with a rock during a domestic dispute Friday outside of a Dallas airport, police said.

The officer managed to separate himself from the man once, but opened fire after the man rushed him a second time, according to Dallas Police Assistant Chief Randall Blankenbaker.

The condition of the assailant was not immediately known, Blankenbaker said. He added the man appeared conscious when he was placed in an ambulance.

The altercation began around noon near the baggage claim area of Dallas Love Field airport after the suspect had allegedly thrown rocks at a woman that was the mother of his children, Blankenbaker said. The children were not present, he said.

Police later identified the suspect as Shawn Diamond, 29, and said he was in stable condition.

A video taken by a bystander and posted to Instagram shows an officer with his weapon drawn and pointed at a suspect near an entrance to the baggage claim area. Multiple shots can be heard, while a man yells "get down!" The video shows some travelers scrambling after the burst of gunfire.

The suspect repeatedly told the officer to shoot him, a witness told The Associated Press.

The airport was shut down for about two hours, and it has warned that passengers could face security delays of up to three hours.
