J.D. Vance, author of the best-seller βHillbilly Elegy,β became the subject of mockery on Tuesday after griping on Twitter about a group of female rowers wearing face masks.
Vance, who is considering a U.S. Senate run in Ohio, apparently posted the tweet while walking near the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
βIβm in DC today and just saw a group of girls on the Potomac rowingβoutside in the sunshineβall of them with masks on. Just totally insane.β

Since Vance was complaining about people who were doing their own thing without harming anyone else β the very definition of freedom and liberty β he didnβt get much support on Twitter.
Trying to figure out how this affects you but I have no goddamn idea https://t.co/gRMjUF8t9F

The obvious question is why this would matter to anyone else. They're free to do as they please, no? https://t.co/oMmj5l0p5k

oh that sounds terrible. but did you die though? https://t.co/iwonwBqi7f

Creeping on girls in DC when you're supposed to be running for office in Ohio is a weird campaign strategy but you do you https://t.co/F2T5dZmnng

As the parent of a 15 year old whose high school rowing team has been able to practice on the Potomac this spring, wearing masks because they have to pant on each other, I would note that kids under 16 only became eligible to get a first covid vaccine shot late last week. https://t.co/xgEteKsN8i

I just think the people judging anyone for walking around outside with a mask are crazy. I agree theyβre out there, but man being this emotionally invested in this is not healthy. These people need to get a grip. https://t.co/w0UfDO6Oat

maybe one of them has a IBD and takes immune suppressants or has a family member with cancer on chemo and maybe it's none of your business https://t.co/GMRJLWNMdC

have you considered verbally harassing them. chasing them down the riverbank shouting as your suit shirt and tie becoming undone and business papers fly everywhere https://t.co/PlvOSsCqvr

I also go insane when I see a group of women gathered. I usually make a kind of hissing sound to scatter them. https://t.co/3mWfFQ3I87

I too saw people that were doing an activity the way they wanted to that didn't involve me. My public criticism of them was... nonexistent however, because it's none of my fucking business cause it literally doesn't affect me at all.

But then again, I'm not a bloated jackass. https://t.co/1mxItsTjk3
the "no one can tell me what to do" crowd is really having a hard time witnessing people do what they want lol https://t.co/0NPEPb5lk8
