CNN’s John King appeared to take a swipe at Fox News on Thursday after the right-wing network was slow to report that four leaders of the Proud Boys extremist gang were convicted of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
King, who appeared alongside CNN analyst Carrie Cordero, acknowledged that 1,000-plus people have faced charges in connection with the insurrection before turning to “another network” over its coverage.
“There’s another network that, by the time I walked upstairs — even though this had been out for 40 minutes — had not shown this to the American people just yet — to their audience,” said King of the guilty verdict in the four-month Proud Boys trial.
The jury’s conviction for seditious conspiracy, a rare charge historically brought against terrorists on American soil, may signal that those who masterminded the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election may also be vulnerable to such a prosecution. The U.S. attorney continues investigating the roles of ex-President Donald Trump and others in the insurrection.
A Fox News spokesperson told TheWrap that the network later aired Attorney General Merrick Garland’s news conference on the convictions.
Fox News’ coverage of the verdict wasn’t on its homepage as of early Friday, while the trial was prominent news on major sites like CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post and HuffPost before it was displaced by other stories later on Friday.
