Fox NewsNeil Cavuto on Wednesday pressed Donald Trump-defending Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.) to point out which of the 78 criminal charges now pending against the former president are “specious.”

Langworthy, once a member of Trump’s transition team who was endorsed by the former president last year, told the host that he expects “a continuation of more of the same” as Trump is arraigned on charges that he tried to overturn the 2020 election.

“Every time the walls close in on Joe Biden, President Trump gets indicted again,” Langworthy said as he peddled the whataboutism argument dished out by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and other Republicans.

“So, I think this is really just a continuation of the two-tiered system of justice at play. This is accomplishing nothing but trying to imprison and jail the president of the United States’ chief political opponent in the presidential election. I just find it absurd.”

Cavuto noted that the Jan. 6 case is Trump’s third indictment this year.

“There are 78 charges altogether, Congressman. They can’t all be specious, can they?” asked Cavuto.

“Well, it’s unprecedented that you have had a series ... you had an impeachment trial for one,” answered Langworthy. The indictments that have “sprouted up” against Trump are timed to interfere in the 2024 election, he claimed.

Cavuto suggested that many of the felony allegations against Trump are of his “own making.”

Langworthy, however, clung to his denial and claimed the Trump indictments are aimed at distracting attention from “the entire Biden family crime case.”
